Back in the day, when I first began wine tasting, all Americans needed to know about Spanish wine were Sherry, Rioja, and the wines of Miguel Torres (near Barcelona). Spanish red wines tended to be medium-bodied, and tasted heavily of the oak barrels in which they had been aged for longer than wine in most other countries.
