Riesling or Moscato?

Which do you prefer? After years of being a Riesling fan; I have switched to Moscato. Moscato appears to be gaining popularity in general. It is slowly making its way onto the general "wine by the glass" selection on many a wine list. Try it out and let me know your thoughts!!

Agree and try this Riesling

I'm not a big fan of sweet wines but I had an opportunity to recently try a Eroica by Chateau Ste Michelle. It is a Riesling that doesn't suffer from a lack of balance. It is a nice combination of sweetness and acidity. If you enjoy Rieslings at one point or another I'd suggest trying it. As for Moscato vs Riesling, I typically view Moscato as a dessert wine while Riesling I see as more of a "candy" white wine. Something you might bring to a picnic? I agree with you generally speaking that you are seeing Moscato pop-up in restaurants and wine stores more than before!

reply to Muscatos and Rieslings

These sweet wines are honestly flying off the shelves... Barefoot Muscato has won awards and an owner of a liquor store that I know is telling me some Italian muscatos are hard to keep in stock. Realistically, the sweet wines are just easier on the palate but not necessarily the best for just any dish. More of a "cocktail hour" wine in my opinion. But that being said, they are certainly showing up on most restaurants wine offerings, especially the Rieslings.

I agree in as much as most of

I agree in as much as most of the "sweet" wines are not very complimentary to a meal however more I educate myself on sweet wines the more I find that like any wine genre there are several types of sweet wine available and they vary greatly in their texture, body and degree of sweetness. Some of the muscatos available and a few of the Rieslings available are actually very pleasant and will go well with some dishes.
